Choosing a Good Roof Contractor

When looking for a roof contractor, you should exercise the whole exercise with caution. There are hundreds of contractors in the market who claim to be qualified. However, only a handful of these have the ability to carry out a roofing job to perfection. What is more, some of these are new in the industry and they do not understand the basics of what makes an excellent project. In order to ensure you do not make a mistake, there are a couple of things you need to consider and these are as highlighted below.

  • Licensed

The first thing you need to do is establish the contractor is licensed. Majority of states require that they should be licensed though it is not a necessity in others. This is proof that they understand what they are doing and so, are capable of meeting your roofing needs. It is also a sure-shot way to ensure that you get work worth your money.

  • Workers Compensation Insurance

Before signing any contract, find out whether they have a liability compensation insurance plan for the workers. If they do, how much is it? Contractors are able to get a copy of this from their insurance company once you make a request for the same. You want to be certain that in the event workers get hurt while working within your property, they are covered by the contractor in order to avoid any problems. Therefore, unless they can provide this, you are better off carrying your search elsewhere.

  • Reputation

As far as roofing jobs go, quality is everything. For this reason, you should take time to confirm that indeed, the contractor you choose to work with has a reputation for delivering quality results. Settle for one capable of providing references. It is also recommended that the projects referenced should be at least three years and not more. However, it is important to remember that there are some contractors who might be new in the industry but capable of carrying out high quality work. In order to be on the safe side, it is advisable to make a call to the BBB (Better Business Bureau) to find out wherever there are any complaints launched against the contractors.

  • Do they offer Warrantyies?

Before signing up, find out whether they are willing to offer any warranties. Excellent contractors have workmanship warranties because they have faith in their expertise. What is more, it also protects you against defects. Ideally, the warranty should last for a minimum of 3 years though there are some contractors who offer 5 year warranties.

There are other aspects you need to consider apart from these mentioned above. For starters, you should make sure that they provide copies of the roofing material warranty and they should also explain it. Before concluding on the project, they should inspect your roof and give you a feedback of the findings. This will help you determine the amount of work that needs to be carried out. To cap it all, they should be in a position to provide an estimate of the roofing costs in written form.
